A question about the development of a new library in Clane was submitted to Kildare County Council (KCC) by a local politician.
Independent Cllr Pádraig McEvoy made the enquiry at the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District meeting.
This meeting was held on Friday, February 2 last.
Cllr McEvoy asked KCC to 'give an update, with an outline of tasks, towards the planned development of the new library in Clane?'
In response, KCC told Cllr McEvoy: "The Stage 3 application was submitted by the Library Service to the Department of Rural and Community Development in December 2023 and we await their response.
"In the meantime we are working with the Design Team to produce the tender documents for the main contractor for the Clane Library Capital Project."
KCC added: "Once we have approval from the Department, we hope to be in a position to progress the project to the tender and the construction phase."
