A Kildare county councillor has criticised what he believes to be an apparent lack of progress on a site in Newbridge.
Social Democrats Cllr Chris Pender made the comments in relation to the Westbank House in Newbridge, which is located beside the disused water tower, as well as the Whitewater Shopping Centre.
Explaining his views, he said: "A year ago, in February 2022, Ascot Ltd was granted planning permission for the redevelopment of Westbank House.
"However, here we stand a year later, with no visible progress on their plans.
"Consequently, Kildare County Council is taking necessary action seeking to add Westbank House to the derelict sites register."
Cllr Chris Pender.
He continued: "Being added to this register is no small matter; it signifies a site's detrimental impact on the community's amenity, character, or appearance.
"Owners can face levies, compulsory land purchases, or charges for any improvement works the council may undertake, urging them to act responsibly and promptly.
"Our community deserves development that is timely and beneficial."
Cllr Pender concluded: "I remain optimistic about Newbridge's future and am committed to ensuring that all sites in our town are developed with the community's best interest at heart."
