Kildare man remembered as 'a great character' and 'always a pleasure to meet'

The community of Athy, Co Kildare is mourning the recent passing of Jack Fleming, who has been remembered as “a great character” and “always a pleasure to meet.”

Jack, Fontstown, Athy, Kildare passed away peacefully on July 8 2025.

He is predeceased by his mother and father Thomas and Brigid Fleming and his older brother Tommy Fleming.

Dearly missed by his beloved sister Margaret and his brothers Mick and Jimmy.

Forever remembered by his many nephews and nieces, his friends and extended family.

Many thanks to the staff and nurses of Naas General Hospital who cared for Jack in his last days. Many thanks also to the staff of Blue Bird Care who spent so many years tending to Jack.

Special thanks to Michelle and Michael Fleming who dedicated so much time and love to Jack for many years.

May Jack Rest in Peace

Tributes paid to Jack on RIP.ie this week include: “Rest in peace, Jack. A great character, you’ll be sorely missed by family and friends. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”

And: “Condolences to the entire Fleming family on the death of Jack. He was one decent sound and jolly man who was always a pleasure to meet. May Jack rest in eternal peace reunited with his loved ones gone before him.”

While another mourner wrote: “Deepest sympathy to the Fleming family. Many good fun times were had over the years. Rest in peace Jack.”

And another added: “Condolences to Jimmy, Mary, Kevin, PJ, Michelle, Aidan, Mike, Ciss, Pam, Breda and all the Fleming family on the passing of Jack. A true gentleman always a smile and a hello when ever you would meet him. Rest in peace Jack.”

Reposing at his home in Fontstown, Athy (R14 TF44) on Friday (July 11) from 4pm until the conclusion of the Rosary at 8pm.

Removal on Saturday morning (July 12) to arrive at St. Ita's Church, Kilmeade for Requiem Mass at 11am, the Mass will be livestreamed, see link https://www.narraghmoreandmoone.ie/

Burial afterwards in Crookstown Cemetery.

House private Saturday morning please.
