'Loving and warm hearted' Kildare lady fondly remembered

The community of Athy is mourning the passing of 'loving and warm hearted' resident, Esther (Essie) Dunne (née Bannon), who passed away on June 12 2025.

Essie was from Bennettsbridge, Athy, Kildare / Rhode, Offaly. Formerly of Coolcor, Rhode, Co. Offaly and William St., Athy.

Predeceased by her husband Pearse, parents Joseph and Esther, brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Deeply regretted by her loving children Mary, Pearse and Declan, son-in-law Gerard, daughters-in-law Angela and Anna, sister-in-law Eve, grandchildren Doireann, Gráinne, Pádraig, Rebecca, Robert, Ciarán and Shauna, Gráinne's fiancé Thijl, Pádraig's partner Lou, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Rest in Peace.

Tributes paid to Essie on RIP.ie this week include: “Sincere condolences to Mary, Pearse, Declan and extended family on the passing of Essie their mum. She was loving and warm hearted, you felt the same when in her company. Worked hard all her life, looking after her family and extended. May her gentle soul rest in peace.”

And: “Sincere sympathy to the extended Dunne family on the sad passing of Esther.
May her gentle soul rest in peace.”

While another mourner wrote: “Sincere sympathy to Pearse, Angela and the Dunne family on the passing of Essie. She was a most pleasant lady and it was always a joy to meet her.
May her gentle soul rest in peace.”

And another added: “Sincere sympathy to Mary, Pierce, Declan, Angela, Anna and Gerard and extended family on the the sad passing of Esther. She was a lovely lady and may her gentle soul rest in peace.”

Reposing at her son Pearse's residence (R14 YV05) on Friday afternoon (June 13th) from 1pm with Rosary at 8pm.

Removal at 10.30am on Saturday morning (June 14th) to arrive at St. Michael's Parish Church, Athy for Requiem Mass at 11am, see livestream link http://www.parishofathy.ie

Burial afterwards in St. Michael's New Cemetery, Athy.

Family flowers only please. Donations, if desired, to The Irish Cancer Society.

House private Saturday morning please.
