Kildare gentleman remembered as 'one of a kind'

Tributes have poured in following the passing of a Kildare gentleman who has been fondly remembered as being 'one of a kind.'

Sam Dowling, Tullyville, Maddenstown, The Curragh, Co Kildare and formerly of White Hall, The Curragh, Co Kildare passed peacefully on May 17 2025 at Naas Hospital surrounded by his loving family and close friends.

Son of the Late Margaret and Sam. Brother of the Late Jim, Vincent, Dominic and Ann.

Sadly missed by his loving sisters Mary and Carmel, brother in law Liam, nieces and nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.

May Sam Rest in Peace.

Tributes paid to Sam on RIP.ie this week include: “My heartfelt condolences to Carmel, Mary and all the immediate family on the passing of Sam. Sam was one of a kind and I will remember him fondly. May his gentle soul rest in peace.”

And: “Carmel and family we were so very sorry and saddened to hear of Sams passing. Sam could always put a smile on my face telling stories of years ago. Sam had a huge heart and looked after everyone in Ashleylodge especially our late uncle Kit. May his gentle soul rest in peace.”

While another mourner wrote: “Many an adventure we had with Sam, may he rest in heavenly peace, such a gentleman and great character. Heartfelt sympathy to Carmel, Mary and families, thinking of you all as you bid Sam adieu.”

And another added: “Condolences to to Carmel, Mary and the extended Dowling family on Sam's passing. Sam was a great character. He'll be missed by his many friends. May he rest in peace.”

Reposing at McWeys Funeral Home, Abbeyview, Kildare Town from 5pm on Tuesday with Rosary at 7pm.

Removal by Glennons Funeral Directors on Wednesday morning to arrive at St. Brigids Church, Suncroft for Requiem Mass at 11am.

Burial afterwards in Holy Cross Cemetery, Suncroft.

Sams Funeral Mass will be live-streamed on the webstream link below.
