Kildare man remembered: 'a man of many wise words, a gentleman'

A Kildare man has been remembered as being a man 'of many wise words' and 'a gentleman'

Seán (Seánie) Byrne, Blackhall, Calverstown, Kilcullen, Co Kildare and formerly of Woods, Swinford, Co Mayo died peacefully on April 8 2025 at Naas General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Seán is predeceased by his parents John and Delia, his sister Kathleen and his brother Tom.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Lydia (Lil) his devoted children Sinéad, John, Regina, Mark, JP, Cormac and Lydia, his sisters Mary, Carmel and Anne, his brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, his sons-in-law Seán and Conor, daughters-in-law Rosalie and Aishling his 15 adored grandchildren Míah, Tiernan, Markie, Joanna, Conor, Tom, Seánie, Darcy, Ellen, Delia, Olivia, Emma, Jimmy, Conor Óg and Kate, his extended family and many good neighbours and friends.

Heartfelt tributes for Seán were paid on RIP.ie this week, including: “A man of many wise words, a gentleman!! Our deepest condolences to Lil and all the family, friends and neighbours. May Seanie rest in peace.”

And: “Our Love and Condolences to Lil and her extended family at this time. We all have happy memories of Sean and our thoughts and best wishes are with Lil at this time, you and your family are in our prayers and we wish you strength and peace now and in the future.”

While another mourner wrote: “Sincere condolences to you Regina and all of your family. Your dad left a wonderful legacy in his lovely family. May he rest in peace.”

And another added: “Condolences to Regina on the loss of your father. It’s a difficult time which is eased only by the friends and relatives around you. Thinking of you and family at this sad time.”

Reposing at his daughter Lydia's residence (Eircode R56 V402) on Thursday April 10 from 4pm to 8pm with prayers at 7pm.

Funeral arriving to the Church of S.S Mary & Laurence, Crookstown, on Friday April 11 for requiem Mass at 1.30pm followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. The funeral mass may be viewed at the following link: http://www.narraghmoreandmoone.ie/

House Strictly Private on Friday morning please.
