RIP: Kildare shattered by untimely death of beloved GAA man and 'pillar of the community'
Tributes have flooded in following the untimely death of popular local man Brendan Kenny from Arconagh, Naas.
Brendan passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, 23 March surrounded by his family. He leaves behind his wife Claire, three daughters Síne, Eilis and Cera, his mother Esther, brothers Liam, Kevin and Colm, his wider family and large circle of friends.
The former solider played a significant role in his local community, particularly through volunteering with camogie in the county. The impact of his contribution is evident through the hundreds of tributes left by past and present members of the GAA community who worked and played alongside Brendan.
Many have taken to share messages of support online for Brendan's family as well as to highlight the role he played in shaping their sporting experience and the kindness he presented to everyone.
Kildare Camogie have led the tributes for Brendan on social media, detailing his legacy within the sport throughout the years: "Brendan made an immeasurable contribution to the growth and strengthening of camogie in Naas.
"At county level, Brendan was honoured as the Kildare Camogie Volunteer of the Year in 2013; was involved in giving young players their first opportunity to wear the Lilywhite jersey when he was part of county management teams for underage Kildare camogie teams and served as the County Board's voluntary Development Officer.
Others have shared kind words on Brendan's RIP.ie notice to pay tribute to the Kildare man. One person remarked: "Brendan was one of life's great humanitarians his work in Africa over the years was inspiring to us all. Always had a cheery word when you met him on a grey morning in Sallins railway station. A real loss to everyone that knew him in Naas but we are all better for having known him."
Another person wrote: "I fondly remember Brendan from my days playing camogie, he was a wonderful club man and a true gentleman. In more recent years it was always a joy to bump into him where he would greet you with the happiest smile and genuine interest in asking how life was going. It was a pleasure to have known him and his loss will be felt deeply."
Brendan will be reposing at his residence (W91FTX9) on Tuesday, 25 March from 2pm with concluding prayers at 7pm. Removal will take place at 9.30am on Wednesday for funeral mass at The Church of Our Lady & St. David in Nass at 10am. Burial will follow afterwards in Mainham Cemetery in Clane.
