Tributes have been paid to a Kildare man who was said to be 'one of nature's true gentlemen.'
Kieran Hickey (Leixlip, Co. Kildare, formerly of Naas, Co. Kildare and ex-Eastern Health Board) passed away peacefully on February 28 2025 surrounded by his family.
Kieran was the beloved husband of Anne and much loved father of Paul, Grainne, Ciarán, Julianne, Jim, Tadhg, Deirdre, John, Maria and Joe.
He is sadly missed by his loving family, grandchildren Daniel, Cian, Jonathan, Jason, Adam, Andrew, Caitlin, Joshua, Chloe, Conor, Sarah, Louis, Nathan, Donagh, Sheana, Cameron, Lily Kate, Sean, Annabelle, Éabha, Liam, sister Anne-Marie, brothers John B and Timothy, sons-in-law Gordon and Ken, daughters-in-law and partners Annette, Shauna, Eimear, Brigitte and Cristina, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, nieces and nephews in Ireland and Chicago, relatives and many friends in the Leixlip Church Parish and beyond.

Predeceased by his siblings Seamie, Nicholas, Phyl, Tom, Carmel and Ursula.

Tributes paid to Kieran this week included: “My thoughts and prayers are with you Anne and all the Hickey family on the loss of Kieran. He was one of nature's true gentlemen. He was a very content and happy man with an internal joy that radiated from him. He brought calm and peace wherever he went. He could command the respect of everyone at a meeting. He was instrumental in setting up many branches of the Vocations Society of St Joseph, formerly known as St Joseph's Young Priests Society. You just couldn't refuse to do anything if he asked you. We will all miss his
wisdom, generosity and kindness in the Vocations Society of St Joseph.”
And: “My deepest sympathies to Anne & Family following Kieran’s passing. It was always a pleasure to meet and deal with Kieran. He was a man of great probity and his place in Heaven is well earned. I pray that God will comfort you all at this difficult time. Rest in Peace Kieran.”
While another mourner wrote: “Our deepest sympathy to you Anne and your family on the passing of your beloved Kieran. A long life well lived. May Kieran's gentle soul now rest in everlasting peace x.”
And another added: “Our deepest sympathies to Anne and her family on the sad passing of Kieran, R.I.P. He was a gentleman. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time.”
Reposing at Cunningham’s Funeral Home, Celbridge on Tuesday afternoon (March 4) from 2pm with removal to the Church of Our Lady’s Nativity, Leixlip arriving at 5pm.
