Some of Kildare’s leading historians are set to impress at this year’s History Festival of Ireland at Huntington Castle, Carlow on June 7 and 8.
James Durney will be rubbing shoulders with some of the top historians in the field.
A dazzling array of discussions, readings, debates, interviews and performances are line up along with Huntington’s Temple of Isis display and Ireland’s most in-depth explorations of World War I ever to be assembled.
Speakers will include Margaret MacMillan, Myles Dungan, Catriona Crowe and Turtle Bunbury discussing World War One.
The line up also features Stephen Rea, Eoin Colfer, Grace Dyas and Kevin Whelan.
James Durney will be on the panel with Turtle Bunbury discussing Leinster and the Great War. Also Leixlip piano teacher, Jarlath McNamara will be telling the extraordinary story of Irish born American band master P.S. Gilmore. Meanwhile, Paul Horan, will speak about Castledermot as the seat of the Irish Parliament 750 years ago . Maynooth Professor Susan Schreibman will be with Catriona Crowe and Patrick Geaghan discussing the digitalisation of the First World War archives.
Children will also be ‘taken back in time’ in front of the Castle and there will be vintage cars there too, as well as a big historical garden section.
