Boil Water Notice issued to protect customers in this Kildare area

Drinking water experts from Uisce Éireann are working to lift the notice as quickly and safely as possible
An urgent Boil Water Notice has been issued by Uisce Éireann (UE) to protect customers in one County Kildare area.
Residents of Rathangan’s Pomeroy Park (Numbers 1 to 72, inclusive) should boil their water for drinking, food preparation and brushing teeth before use until further notice.
A spokesperson for UE elaborated: “Our team at Uisce Éireann knows this will be disappointing and disruptive for households in the residential area, but we want to reassure customers that we are working as quickly as possible to restore normal water quality.
“Following consultation with the Health Service Executive (HSE) the notice has been put in place to protect public health after increased bacteria levels were detected in the supply.”
They added that customers can check if their property is affected by visiting the Water Quality Section of water.ie and entering their Eircode or by contacting Uisce Éireann’s customer care team, available 24/7, on 1800 278 278.
A map of the affected area is available on the Supply and Service section of water.ie
Moreover, one member of UE, Eoghan Forristal, also asserted that its drinking water experts are working to lift the notice ‘as quickly and safely as possible’, and in consultation with the HSE.
REMINDER
UE customers in this affected region are reminded that water is safe to consume once it has been boiled and cooled.
Water must be boiled for:
- Drinking
- Preparing drinks made with water
- Preparing salads and foods that are not cooked before eating
- Brushing teeth
- Making ice
What customers should do:
- Boil water by bringing it to a vigorous rolling boil and allow it to cool before use
- Use boiled water when washing food that will not be cooked, such as salads
- Water can still be used for washing, bathing and flushing toilets, but should not be used for brushing teeth or gargling
- Domestic water filters will not make water safe to drink
- Extra care should be taken when bathing children to ensure they do not swallow water
- Great care should be taken when handling boiled water to avoid burns and scalds
UE pointed out that customers can stay informed through water.ie, UE’s X channels @IWCare and @IrishWater, on Facebook and LinkedIn, or by contacting the customer care team on 1800 278 278.
Furthermore, customers are encouraged to register for UE’s free text alert service using their Eircode and mobile number at water.ie.
UE also said that vulnerable customers who are registered with it receive direct communications whenever Boil Water Notices are issued.
