Tug of War face off for breast cancer charity

Two Naas clubs held a successful event to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Paint it Pink Day on October 29.

Naas Lions Club, in conjunction with Naas GAA and Naas Rugby Clubs, did their bit by holding a Bra Tug Of War in Poplar Square last Saturday to raise awareness and funds for the Irish Cancer Society.

Lions spokesperson, Alice Fennelly, said: “We had a good crowd and a great buzz in the centre of Naas last saturday afternoon.

"People came out in force to show their support for this wonderful cause. €1,840 was raised in a bucket collection and a further €590 at the rugby clubhouse. Other monies have been pledged so it is expected that the Lions Club will exceed the target of 2,500 for the event.”

As it turned out, Naas rugby club got the better of their GAA colleagues, 3-1. The rugby side won the first two pulls but the GAA club took the third leg. The rugby side won a tense fourth pull. Prizes were sponsored by Richie Whelan’s Menswear and Graces Pub.
