Taoiseach Enda Kenny joined several ministers and other TDs at the wedding of Kildare South TD Martin Heydon, 34, and double GAA All Star Brianne Leahy, 31, at the Keadeen Hotel last Friday, May 24.

The couple tied the knot exactly five years to the day after they met.

“KFM sports reporter Killian Whelan is a mutual friend. I was meeting him for a drink at the Heinken Cup Final in Cardiff in 2008.

“He introduced us there,” the newly married Fine Gael deputy told the Leinster Leader.

The couple were married at Crookstown Church on Friday morning, followed by a reception attended by 230 people in the Keadeen later that day and a barbecue in the bride’s home near Athy on Saturday.

The bride wore a dress from B Couture in Wicklow, while the groom stayed local with a fine three-piece from the Man’s Shop in Newbridge.

Brianne, recently qualified as a pharmacist and currently working as a locum won an All-Star in 2004 and 2007, and captained the Kildare Ladies team to All-Ireland glory in 2004.

Meanwhile the popular Deputy Heydon is a first time TD and topped the poll in his first outing, capturing a seat for the first time since Alan Dukes stepped down.

The couple were due to head off on honeymoon yesterday evening.
