LIVE: Track the path of Storm Éowyn as Met Eireann status red warnings take effect

Caution urged amid potential 'danger to life' in Kildare and across the country

Met Éireann has issued a series of warnings ahead of the arrival of Storm Éowyn which could be one of the most destructive storms ever seen in Ireland.

Status red wind warnings have been issued for EVERY county in Ireland with the first taking effect at 2am on Friday and the last remaining valid until 2pm.

For Kildare, a status orange wind warning will be in place from midnight until 4pm on Friday while a highest-level status red wind warning will be in effect between 6am and 11am on Friday.

Schools, creches and colleges will remain closed on Friday and all public services, including public transport will NOT operate while status red warnings are in place.

Kildare County Council says its offices will remain closed on Friday and that emergency crews will be deployed once it's safe to do so.

"Kildare County Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team and Crisis Management Team met on Thursday morning, January 23 in response to these weather warnings. The Local Co-ordination Group will also meet to ensure co-ordination of emergency services during and after Storm Éowyn," said a spokesperson.
