Tim Durkan was embraced by his family following a second-count victory for the councillor.
The Fine Gael candidate received enough votes in the second count to secure his spot as local councillor, joining Fianna Fáil's Naoise Ó Cearúil.
The councillor received 1,586 votes between the first and second counts.
