WATCH: Celebrations as newest Kildare garda members are formally attested in Templemore

TWO KILDARE locals were attested as sworn members of An Garda Síochána at a ceremony in Templemore.

Niamh Doyle and Ashley Langan both expressed interest in joining the Guards to ‘make a difference’ amongst locals.

The ceremony took place in the Garda College in Templemore where 87 new recruits were joined by Minister for Justice Helen McEntee and Deputy Garda Commissioner Anne Marie McMahon.

Niamh will be stationed at Tallaght Garda Station and said; “I did my placement there and I loved it, there is a great unit up there and even the surrounding districts as well they are fantastic.”

Ashley will be stationed at Ballyfermot Garda Station and said; “I called in and visited the members of my unit and I had a really positive time and was looking forward to it.”

Both expressed that the toughest part of training was balancing home life and training and although there was great comradery in Templemore Garda Training College Ashley notes it is very much a ‘balancing act.”

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Garda Commissioner Anne Marie McMahon said; “You are here having gone through a rigorous training programme because of your drive to keep people safe. Your commitment to uphold law and order. Your dedication to public service. You are here today because you want to make a difference. This is the job of a Garda. And it’s a job worth doing.”

With the newly sworn members of An Garda Síochána will bring the total number of sworn Gardaí to 13,949.
