The matter was queried by the Mayor of the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District

Kildare County Council (KCC) has released an update relating to accessibility features for a long-anticipated project.

The information was heard at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) meeting, which took place on Wednesday, September 16 last.

At around the halfway point of this meeting, the Mayor of the MD, Fianna Fáil councillor Suzanne Doyle, queried KCC over the Magee Barracks development.

She raised the subject (and the planned accessibility features of the project) via the submission of the following question: “Can KCC provide a progress report on the opening of pedestrian linkages in Magee Barracks and delivery of vehicular links?”

In response, KCC noted via the report it presented at the meeting: “Vehicular access to Magee Barracks is currently available solely via the R445.

“While the Masterplan identified potential future vehicular connections to Ruanbeg Manor and to Melitta Road, neither of these links has planning approval and there are currently no planning applications under consideration for their delivery.

“Some boundary works along the R445 remain outstanding, and KCC is working with the developer to ensure these works are completed as part of the current phase of development.”

KCC added: “In relation to pedestrian connectivity, the Masterplan identifies a pedestrian linkage to Magee Terrace.

“KCC is currently engaging with the developer regarding the delivery of this connection and is working towards its provision.”

Mayor Doyle in turn told KCC that she accepted its report.
