Concern raised over thorny bushes growing onto Kildare footpaths

The dilemma was highlighted at the latest Athy Municipal District meeting
A local representative has raised concerns over the presence of thorny bushes overgrowing onto certain footpaths located in County Kildare.
Fianna Fáil Cllr Brian Dooley highlighted the situation at the latest Athy Municipal District meeting, which took place on Monday, July 20 last.
Specifically, Cllr Dooley asked: “Can KCC outline its policy with cutting back briars and other thorny bushes in hedges that are over growing onto public footpaths, making it difficult for all pedestrian accessibility?”
He also pointed to the Carlow Road in Athy as one example of a region with this issue.
In response to Cllr Dooley’s query, KCC asserted that hedge cutting is the responsibility of the landowner.
However, KCC added: “The Municipal District [Office], on a case-by-case basis, can carry out remedial works if deemed a safety hazard.”
