Aidan Flanagan always captivated by the landscape & by the effect of light and shade on the Irish countryside & coastal areas. Hence his love for places such as Achill, Dingle Peninsula, Valentia Island. Now living in Co. Meath, he finds inspiration on walks in Dalgan, Loughcrew, and the Boyne Valley. Marie -Louise Martin divides her time between Dublin and Radicondoli, a small Italian hilltop town, immersed in the surrounding landscape seemingly untouched by 21st century. Her original prints using early Florentine portraits with modern day models are surrounded by embossed “frames” & the landscapes are contained within a woman’s profile, in this way combining two themes.

A Church of Ireland rector, Samuel George Cotton was convicted on three occasions of ill-treating children under his control in Caragh Orphanage, earning him two prison sentences and heavy fines. His name lives on in the memory of locals, prompting curiosity in an outsider who lived in Robertstown for 35 years. The deconsecrated church, opposite Mondello Park, home to yellow bins and heavy machinery, fuels a story which is worth investigating. A presentation with local images connected to the case will be given by Mary Conliffe who completed a Masters in Local History on the subject.

Karamazoo is a 25 minute monologue for a young performer written in 2003 by London writer Philip Ridley. It is one of the most perfect pieces of writing for a young actor, combining fresh story-telling and comic characterisation that slowly reveals an unflinching critique of a failed social policy through the savage grief of a teenager struggling to cope with the death of a parent.
There is a female version, performed by Hannah Power (in Crooked House – above Johnson’s) and a male version performed by Joe Brown (Riverbank Arts Centre carpark), directed by Peter Hussey.

Kathleen Shackleton, one of the Antarctic explorer's adoring eight sisters, had no less interesting a life than her famous brother. Her travels brought her from the new Czech Republic to Arctic Canada and her career as a successful portrait artist allowed her to meet everyone from Heads of State and industry to factory workers and indigenous communities. Despite all this, Kathleen died in relative obscurity and her achievements have never been celebrated in her birthplace of Ireland.
Dr Sharon Greene, an archaeologist who specialises in the early medieval period and editor of Archaeology Ireland magazine, grew up close to the birthplace of the renowned Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton in Kilkea, Co Kildare. A couple of years ago she began researching the lives of all the girls in this fascinating family whose own stories have been overshadowed by their famous brother.
