While tickets sold out within record time six months ago, punters have had to wait until this morning Wednesday March 13 for the initial announcement of performers, to be revealed by organisers Festival Republic at 11.15am.

The festival will take place from August 30 to September 1 this year in its Laois home of the Cosby estate in Stradbally.

Festival Director Melvin Benn will also be announcing a new Irish festival in a new location.

"With Electric Picnic now fully sold out he will also announce initial details of a brand new festival taking place this summer. The stunning location of this new festival – brought to you by the Electric Picnic family - has never before been used and will provide the perfect backdrop to a new event on the summer festival calendar," Electric Picnic organisers have said.

With the likes of Dua Lipa and George Ezra making last year a huge hit, speculation is at fever pitch as to who might show up this year.

Possibilities include Hozier whose new album 'Wasteland, Baby' has hit number one in the US. He made a surprise appearance to the festival last year and could well make a return.

Foals and The 1975 have also just released new albums and could be in the running.

Picture This are touring for most of 2019 but are free for September so could also be in the pack.

The Foo Fighters are playing in the sister festival Reading and Leeds days before Electric Picnic and would smash the main stage.

After the success of the Feile revival in Semple Stadium, The Stunning or Something Happens would be welcome additions for the 40 somethings in the crowd.

Whoever is revealed, the Laois festival is sure to romp home with another resounding winner of a weekend!
