Met Éireann have warned that some parts of the country can expect thunderstorms on Friday evening ahead of a weekend of mixed weather.

Cathal Nolan from Ireland's Weather Channel has advised that the Midwest can anticipate thunderstorms from 3pm to 7pm especially along the River Shannon, from Limerick to Carrick-on-Shannon.

However, according to Met Éireann, any lingering rain will clear on Friday night and leave a mostly dry night with just some isolated showers across the country.

Fortunately, weather man Cathal Nolan said that Saturday is shaping up to be a "lovely day" with some sunshine set to break through the cloud. However, cloud will increase in the west and northwest later in the day and there is the chance of rain in parts as well.

Highest temperatures will reach between 13 and 17 degrees with light to moderate southwest winds on Saturday.

Sunday will be another mixed day with some cloud and the odd bout of hazy sunshine in the southeast of the country. Atlantic coastal areas are likely to see some mist forming as well on Sunday.

Sunday will be a mild day with highest temperatures ranging from 14 to 18 degrees.

Next week's early weather forecast looks very promising with warm temperatures of low to mid 20s predicted in some places. Perhaps the May Bank Holiday weekend could be a glorious one!
