The latest weekend forecast from Met Eireann
Electric Picnic weekend is finally here, and while everyone attending the annual highly anticipated festival is going to have a great time regardless, dry weather can turn a good weekend into a great weekend.
So according to the latest Met Eireann weather forecast, Ireland is in for a mix of dry weather and showers over the coming days and through the weekend with temperatures expected to reach highs of 20 degrees on Saturday and Sunday.
It will be overcast and wet this morning (Thursday) with outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Turning drier with spells of sunshine over the western half of the country by afternoon, with the drier and brighter weather extending nationwide in the late afternoon. Highest temperatures of 17 to 21 degrees in light to moderate southwest winds, veering northwest behind the rain.
Thursday night will be dry and mainly clear. Lows of 8 to 11 degrees in a light southwesterly breeze.
On Friday it will be mostly dry with sunny spells. There is the chance of isolated showers in the west and northwest. Highest temperatures of 17 to 21 degrees in light to moderate southwest to west winds.
Dry for much of the country on Friday night with a mix of cloud and clear spells. However, there will be some light showers, mainly for the northwest and west. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 13 degrees in light to moderate southwesterly breezes, fresher at first in the northwest.
It will become cloudier through Saturday morning as scattered light showers extend over much of the country. Driest in the east and south for the afternoon with the best of any sunny spells. Better sunny spells will develop for the evening with just isolated showers.
Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees in mostly moderate southwest to west winds, coolest in the northwest where winds will turn a bit fresher later in the afternoon.
A few light showers will continue in the north and for Atlantic coastal areas on Saturday night but otherwise it will be dry with a mix of cloud and clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees in moderate southwest to west winds, fresher near northern and western coasts.
There will be variable cloud with some sunny spells expected on Sunday. Scattered showers will develop through the morning and for the afternoon before becoming isolated in the evening with spells of late sunshine. Highest temperatures of 17 to 21 degrees generally but a degree or two cooler in parts of the north and west with mostly moderate westerly winds.
Gradually turning cloudier from the southwest through Sunday night with a few spots of light rain and drizzle developing in the west and southwest. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees. Light westerly winds will back southerly through the night.
There is some uncertainty in the details for Monday but current indications suggest it will turn breezy with outbreaks of rain moving in from the southwest through the day, possible turning heavy. Highest temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees with fresh and gusty southerly winds developing.
