Kildare Rian Boran pushes past the attempted challenge of Derry Thomas Brady during the Allianz Hurling League Division 2B Round 3 game played at St Conleth Park, Newbridge
Kildare's hopes for gaining promotion from Division 2B suffered a set-back at St Conleth's Park today, following their two point defeat at the hands of Derry.
In game that lacked intensity where both sides struggled to show their best form, Kildare led at at the break by just one 1-7 to 0-9 but it was the concession of three points in time added on where the game was probably won, and lost.
Playing with the wind in that opening half and after taking the lead through a Barry Cormac goal, The Lilies looked like they might build up a decent lead but when the break came there was just one separating them.
Derry quickly leveled on the resumption, went two clear on a few occasions and while Kildare did fight back to level on 65 minutes, it was Derry who held their nerve firing over the vital scores to secure the win.
