Celbridge manager Micheál McDermott
Former Clare manager Micheál McDermott has gotten Celbridge to two county finals in as many years in charge and he is now looking ahead to his second attempt to topple current kings Naas.
The Cavan native said, “When we lost last year’s final there was a lot of hurt, disappointment, heartbreak and as a group, then at the start of this year we said that the hardest would be to get back to a final. We felt last year that we didn’t play to our full potential yet we still had a chance in the game. We said whatever it would take to get back there, we would do it, have a go again and see where it would bring us.
“To be fair to the players they knuckled down and worked extremely hard and took every game as it came, and to a degree every training session as it came. It was the one focus all year, to get back to a county final and we’re here again. On Sunday, you have two teams that will be extremely hungry for victory and it is going to all come down to 60 minutes of football to see who comes out on top.”
The Celbridge boss is hopeful his side can go one step further this year.
He added, “This is going to be a great occasion for the county. The redeveloped opening of St Conleth’s Park and probably the two form teams in the county facing each other. It is a case now of who can make the least mistakes, who handles the occasion best, and who gives that 10/10 performance that you always strive for.”
