Nurney GAA launch official complaint to CCCC over controversial Straffan loss

Nurney GAA have launched an official objection regarding the result of their 2024 The Auld Shebeen Athy Intermediate Football Championship Preliminary Round fixture with Straffan.

The matter is to go before the CCCC tonight and no video evidence has been released by Straffan, who were recording the game, at the time of writing.

What we know so far; when the final whistle blew on Friday night, on the scoreboard, and in the referee's book, Straffan had won 0-14 to 1-10. However, reporters and fans alike remained confused as to whether this fixture was going to carry on into extra-time, with most certain that Straffan had just 0-13 to their name.

10 minutes from the end, the referee signalled to his linesman that the scoreboard was incorrect and another point was added to Straffan's tally, but it was certainly hard to distinguish where the man operating the board had gone awry.

After the game, the discussion surrounded the awarding of what was called Straffan's 11th point, a high looping effort and one that reporters had marked to John Tracey and as Straffan's 10th point. Whether the discrepancy occurred in this instant or prior is still unclear.
