Capt Pat Fitzmaurice, Junior Capt Thomas Kenny and Capt Edel Hutchinson drive in 2024
1984 was a dangerous year in many parts of the world: Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated by two of her bodyguards and in the UK British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was lucky to survive an IRA bomb attack on her Brighton Hotel. In Kilcock, the foundation for many years of happiness and enjoyment for its members was laid by local man Gerry Canning when he developed a nine-hole golf course at Gallow Kilcock.
On Friday, July 12 the club is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the foundation Kilcock Golf Club with a Pro Am. Captains Edel Hutchinson and Pat Fitzmaurice, together with General Manager Greg Massey PGA, are putting the final touches to arrangements for the big day.
The timesheet for the day filled up quickly, an indication of the extent to which members and visitors wanted to be associated with this historic day. Some of the visitors and some of the professionals attending who have not played the course in the last five years will be amazed at the very high standard of course maintenance and presentation.
Course superintendent in Kilcock Golf Club is Tomás Rowley and he is advised by Ronan Branigan, agronomist and course designer who is a director of Synergy Golf, the company which are management advisors to the club.
Wishing everyone who is playing in the Pro Am the best of luck.
