Group 1, Round 3 of the Tailteann Cup and Kildare travel to Glennon Bros Pearse Park in Longford where they take on Leitrim with a place in the quarter-final up for grabs on Saturday.

Having defeated Longford impressively in the opening round; Waterford in Round 2, comfortable after a poor opening half, Division 3 side Leitrim should be somewhat more competitive than either of the other two.

Leitrim defeated Waterford in round 1 and got the better of Longford, by a single point two weeks ago so they will certainly qualify for a pre-quarter final.

For Kildare, it is another opportunity to put up a decent score, another opportunity to give a boost to their confidence and an opportunity to show they are a much better side than most of the counties in this competition.

Against Waterford last time out, they stuttered and stumbled in that opening half as they struggled to break down Waterford whose no. 1 ambition was to simply keep the score line at respectable levels.

In many respects they succeeded in doing that for 35 minutes but once Kildare bagged their first goal in the second half, they (Kildare) simply pulled clear, not overlooking the fact that Waterford lost a man to a yellow and a black card mid-way through the second half.

No doubt Kildare will give some players game time and opportunity to see what they can do at this level and it is an ideal opportunity for players to show what they are capable of.

A comfortable win can be predicted, hardly rocket science, a place in last eight awaits in the hope that tougher games to come.
