Sigerson Cup: Maynooth University come up short in semi-final

Brave effort as Ulster University book a final spot

Sigerson Cup: Maynooth University come up short in semi-final

The magnificent run of Maynooth University came to an end on Thursday evening when the Kildare team went under by five points to Ulster University in the semi-final of the Sigerson Cup, on a final score line of 1-13 to 0-11, at Inniskeen.

Kildare were once again well represented on the Maynooth side with no less than five Lilies lining out; missing out through injury was Darragh Kirwan and his absence was no doubt a big loss.

With five Sigerson Cups totheir credit the boys from the north could have won this one a lot more comfortbly as they saw many goal chances go abegging throughout the game.

Having played against the wind and the rain Ulster University still managed to lead at the break 1-5 to 0-7, the goal coming from Niall Loughlin.

Ulster University added two quick points on the resumption but Maynooth hit back to get within a single point of their more illustrious opponents who finished the stronger firing over the final four points of the game.
