For the second week in a row coach/ selector Anthony Rainbow had the task of talking to the waiting press, Glenn Ryan still out of bounds with the second of his two game suspension.
Not surprisingly the former All Star defender tried to look at the positives admitting “there were some good things in it and some not so good and for us, as a group, we have to try and concentrate on the positive side of things to get this team playing in the way we went them to play and the fans want them to play.”
Asked what he felt was the most disappointing aspect of the game, Rainbow replied: “I wouldn't say it was the most disappointing but a couple of mistakes that let them in for their two goals; I thing if we could have kept them to points; one of our big goals is not to concede goals; the two goals really turned the game; when we got our first black card we conceded 1-2 in that period, when they got a black card we didn't score anything and again that is a big turning point but as a management team we need to look and try to improve in training and that is work in progress.”
On the black cards the Suncroft man admitted that is always difficult to see from the sideline but we will have a look at them on the video but I have to say I felt they looked harsh.”
Another day with no goals and few, if any goal chances created and it is something that he pointed out admitting “it is something we are working on; that was an issue last year with us also but I do think in time that will come; we were a pass or two away on a few occasions; one just didn't go to hand but again work in progress and hopefully that will come at some stage in the league.”
Asked if he felt there was any improvement this week from the defeat in Carlow he replied that he felt there was.
“Certainly our intensity was better; our tackling was better; we didn't give away as many frees in the scoring area; we didn't give away as many turnovers, so yes certainly there was improvement today.”
On the issue of fitness and where the team is Rainbow said “you have to remember we have six, seven players who have just come off college duty; we still have five or six involved in Maynooth next week and there is an element of fatigue trying to look after those players and we are trying to get that balance right; if you look at the players involved with Maynooth four or five would have started today; a huge ask to ask players to play four games in ten days.”
