SFC Group A

Clane 1-15

Clogherinkoe 2-8

Clane made it two wins from two in the SFC with a hard-earned, but fully deserved, four point win over a very decent Clogherinkoe side at Manguard Park on Saturday afternoon.

It was an excellent game between two fine sides the highlight being the tussle between Clane defender Harry O'Neill and The Cloghs Jack Robinson.

The opening half was real end-to-end stuff and it was Sam McCormack who opened with a fine effort with Gavin Scanlon, following a big run, leveling it up.

Adam Fanning got the first of his three white flags on six and Shane O'Sullivan added another big point to put his side two clear.

A brilliant ball from Shane O'Sullivan put Tadhg Montgomery in on goal but the no. 8 with jut the keeper to beat, fired high and over to leave it 0-4 to 0-1 after ten minutes.

Clogherinkoe got their second of the half through a Jack Robinson free, after being fouled himself but a lovely effort from Sam McCormack found Adam Fanning who turned instantly and fired over to make it 0-5 to 0-2.

Jack Robinson (free) reduced the lead before Robinson set the cat among the pigeons when gaining possession on the edge of the square and with a lovely swagger went through a few defenders before finding the net and when Eoghan McMonagle fired over a free The Cloghs now led 1-4 to 0-5 with 16 gone.

Shane O'Sullivan and Adam Fanning tied it up; Sam Reilly and Tadhg Montgomery had the boys in white two clear before

Clogherinkoe hit the Clane net for a second time with Eoghan McMonagle gaining possession from a kick-out, cut in along the end line before planting the ball in the net to regain the lead by one. However before the break Jake Burke came forward for a fine point to leave the half-time score reading Clane 0-10 Clogherinkoe 2-4.

Clogherinkoe opened the second half with two from Cein McMonagle and while Shane O'Sullivan replied with a free, aof Jack Robinson similar score had The Cloghs leading 2-7 to 0-11 on 39 minutes.

However little did we realise at that time that Clogherinkoe would not score again until the final point of the game from Aedan Boyle, a point, but it was too late at that stage.

In between Clane, who had to work very hard for this win, chalked up a point from Cormac Vizzard before Adam Fanning got the vital goal for the boys in all-white when a Oisin Tighe sent Adam Fanning in on goal and the no. 14 made no mistake keeping his effort low to the net.

The influential Tadhg Montgomery added a point with Shane O'Sullivan added two more before the long whistle arrived with Clane winning 1-18 to 2-8.

A worrying aspect for Clogherinkoe was that Jack Robinson was forced off with what looked like a ham-string problem.
