Celbridge 0-18

Carbury 0-10

Celbridge booked their place in the quarter-final of the Joe Mallon Motors SFC following a comfortable eight point win over Carbury in the final game of the three match programme at Manguard Park on Saturday.

Just as this game got under way the sky opened and we had an absolute downpour which certainly was extremely tough on the players.

It was Killian Browne who opened affairs for Carbury after five minutes; Jack Cully leveled with a free before Carbury took the lead with a fine point from Willie Groome.

Celbridge upped the ante with three points on the trot from Fergal Conway, Browne and a fine effort from Kevin Flynn to make it 0-4 to 0-2 at the mid-way point.

Fergal Conway stretched the lead, Jack Cully replied before Tony Archbold got the first of his four points to make it 0-6 to 0-3.

Before the break Carbury's Stephen McGlynn and Tommy Gill added points; Killian Browne converted a free as the half-time score read Celbridge 0-7 Carbury 0-5.

On the resuption Tony Archbold and Killian Browne (free) extended the advantage before Mark Cully and Jack Cully, following a foul on Morgan O'Flaherty, left three separating the sides on 38 minutees.

Suddenly though Celbridge upped their game again and between the 39 and 48 minute added five unanswered points to effectively kill off the game.

Two Jack Cully points and one from Jack Smith reduced the lead to five but it was the side from the north of the county who added the final three point from Davy Hughes, Tony Archbold and the final point of the game from Liam O'Flynn saw Celbridge book their place in the quarter-final with one group game to go on a final score line of Celbridge 0-18 Carbury 0-10.
