One of the founding members of Craddockstown Golf Club (established 1991) in Naas, Bill Kennedy, last week celebrated his 90th birthday when the club made a presentation to the popular member who plays the course every week.
Bill told those at the prepentation, attended by the captain and members of the club, along with members of Bill's family, "l play probably twice a week, the full 18 holes, including the winer, and I prefer to walk. This keeps me fit. I am trying to improve my golf all the time, but I think that I am getting worse. I play off a handicap of 33 now, but I did play off 15.”
Sean Byrne, Club Captain, said "Bill is a gentleman in the true sense of the word and is held in the highest esteem by all members and staff alike."
Bill said that the trips from his home in Cabinteely to Craddockstown is not something that causes any problems for him. He added that he lives on his own since his beloved wife, Peggy, died 15years ago but followed that up by saying that his family look after him very well. He has 7 children and 13 grandchildren. His son Darragh, who lives in Sydney, is an enthusiastic golfer playing off a handicap of 6. Bill enjoys playing with him at Killara and New South Wales golf clubs when he ventures ‘down under.'
Bill concluded his words by announcing that he “hopes to play as well as he can for as long as I can."
Bill is now looking forward to Craddockstown GC Open Week which commences on Saturday July 1 and
continues until the 9. Full Open Week details: www.craddockstown.com
