U20: Kildare in control against Wexford

Win should see The Lilies advance to quarters

U20: Kildare v Wexford REPORT

Ryan Sinkey, Kildare

Kildare U20s defeated Wexford this evening in Wexford Park and their eight point winning margin should be enough to see them advance, despite losing their opening game to Westmeath last week.

Westmeath will play Wexford next week but it seems the Lilies will  make it through to the quarter-finals regardless of that result.

Kildare led 0-14 to 0-3 after 41 minutes but Wexford hit back with three points on the trot as the Kildare momentum was halted with a number of substitutes being introduced. However the result was never in doubt.

Kildare, playing with a stiffish wind, led at the break 0-9 to 0-3 without being overly impressive it has to be said, well on top but aside from their nine points total they also hit seven wides, both from open play and frees.

They did get a bit of a scare before the break when a high looping ball looked to be going wide but hit the top of the post fell into the hands of Brendan Tobin but his close-in shot was smothered by Kildare keeper Eoin Sheehan.

Final resuslt: Kildare 0-16 Wexford 0-8.
