Kildare trainer Barry Connell and Marine Nationale win opening race of Cheltenham festival

Kildare trainer Barry Connell has opened the Irish account of the 2023 Cheltenham as his horse Marine Nationale finished first in the first race of this year's festival. Marine Nationale beat out the favourite, Willie Mullins trained, Facile Vega who was ridden by Paul Townend.

A mistake at the last cost Townend and the eventual Grade 1 Sky Bet Supreme Novices' Hurdle winning horse was ridden by Michael O'Sullivan and finished the betting itself at 9/2.
