SOLAS: Bank Holiday Craft & Farmers Markets weekend

The new playground at SOLAS Eco Garden Centre has arrived just in time for the good weather with temperatures well into the 20s being experienced in the midlands over the coming days. The double market weekends are always special at SOLAS with large crowds expected.

David Maher, co-owner of SOLAS, explains: “In the past bank holiday weekends would have seen an exodus from the Midlands, but we are now seeing a huge boost in trade as families come in huge numbers for the food, plants, shop and now the great play area. We have designed SOLAS to be a destination regardless of the weather, but it is simply glorious when the sun shines.”

As part of SOLAS’s eco ethos, the playground is gradually being equipped with a range of donated toys which meet the criteria of safe, pre-owned, good condition and suitable for outdoor use. Note, restriction by our insurance company mean unfortunately we have to approve toys on a case-by-case basis. The key advantage with having a playground with an all-weather surface is that kids can play safely and cleanly!

Plants @ SOLAS

Our featured plant is Solanum Jasminoides. It's vigorous semi evergreen climber with wiry branches. They need to be tied into a structure for support.

July-September is covered with white flowers, slightly scented. It needs a sheltered spot in a garden which is moist but not water-logged soil.

Join us for a fun-filled family weekend at SOLAS Eco Garden Centre, Portarlington, Co. Laois R32 RPX8. We're open daily from 10-6pm. See you there!
