Naas Roads Policing Unit recently carried out a speed enforcement operation on the N7 at Kill, Co. Kildare, as part of Operation Lifesaver.

A number of motorists were detected exceeding the 100km/h speed limit.

One motorist was travelling at 134km/h – 34km/h over the posted limit.

Each driver was issued with a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice of €160 and three penalty points.

A garda spokesperson said of the operation: “There is nothing complicated about this. The speed limit was 100km/h. This driver chose to travel at 134km/h.

“Speeding is not a victimless offence. The faster you travel, the less time you have to react and the more severe the consequences when something goes wrong.

“Our Roads Policing Units will continue to target speeding motorists. The message is simple: Slow down. The few minutes you think you are saving are never worth a life.
