“As Halloween 2026 approaches, An Garda Síochána Kildare is reminding the public that fireworks are illegal and can cause serious, life-changing injuries. Fireworks are not harmless entertainment. They can cause significant distress to residents, frighten children, and terrify pets, wildlife and livestock. The loud bangs and sudden flashes can have serious consequences for animals and those living nearby,” said a spokesperson.
“There is no excuse for putting others at risk or causing unnecessary distress. We are asking everyone to act responsibly. If you witness the use or sale of illegal fireworks, report it to Gardaí. Call 999 in an emergency. Help us keep Halloween safe for everyone in our communities, including those who cannot speak up for themselves.”
In the run up the Halloween, Rathangan First Responders also issued a statement online.
“As Halloween approaches, its a good time to chat with teenagers and give them some advice about fireworks. Bystander's are in as much danger as the person releasing the fireworks,” it said.
“Never hold on to a firework and light it. Common Injuries include burns. Burns are the most frequent injury, making up over a third of all fireworks-related hospital visits. They most commonly affect the hands, fingers, face, Fireworks can cause chemical burns, corneal abrasions, retinal detachment, or a ruptured eyeball, often resulting in permanent vision loss or blindness. Blast and Hand Injuries: Unexpected explosions, premature detonations, or holding a device too long can cause severe lacerations, deep tissue trauma, or traumatic amputations. Hearing Damage: The loud noise from heavy firecrackers or aerial shells can cause sudden or permanent hearing loss and ear trauma.”
