The councillor thanked his family for their support

Clane-Maynooth Municipal District councillor Brendan Wyse has announced that he will resign from Kildare County Council later this year.

The Fine Gael councillor confirmed that he formally notified the local authority of his decision to step down as an elected member for the Clane Local Electoral Area (LEA) on September 30, 2026.

In a statement, Cllr Wyse said that the demands of the councillor role had become increasingly difficult to manage alongside other commitments.

“Despite my best efforts, it has become almost impossible to find the time necessary to meet the ever increasing demands of the councillor role to the level that I would like,” he said.

Cllr Wyse thanked his family for their support during his eight years as a public representative and said he was looking forward to spending more time with them.

He also paid tribute to community groups and volunteers across the area, describing their work as one of the most rewarding aspects of his time as a councillor.

“My sincere gratitude to my Fine Gael colleagues behind the scenes at branch and constituency levels, the team in headquarters, and all those who worked on the ground with me,” he said.

Cllr Wyse also thanked his fellow public representatives, particularly those in the Clane-Maynooth Municipal District, for their cooperation during his time on the council.

A vacancy will arise on Kildare County Council following his resignation, with a replacement process to be confirmed.
