PICTURES: All smiles as Kildare Biodiversity week is celebrated at Clane event

There was a Kildare Biodiversity Week event hosted by the Irish Wheelchair Association at the Fr. John Sullivan IWA Centre, Clane, on Tuesday, May 21. It was part of Kildare Biodiversity Week 2024, which had a calendar of events throughout the county from May 17-26

The workshops included learning traditional skills of using edible and medicinal plants for health benefits, tour and exploring our Butterfly and Biodiversity Gardens and showcasing some of the Biodiversity and Brigid 1500 crafts project created. These crafts included various willow creations such as Willow Butterflies, felting projects such as felted gloves, felted pots and
frames. Also, the Brigid 1500 “A new dress for Brigid was on display.


The Brigid project was “A new dress for Brigid” which was funded by Brigid 1500 a collaboration between Kildare Town Heritage Centre and Kildare town community and was facilitated by community arts facilitator Beth Murphy. All materials used have been recycles or natural using ancient skills. A new dress for Brigid is a story of what happens when people
come together and share their skills of copper work, Dry Felting, Embroidery, Stitch Work, Crocket, Eco print, Leather working, Macrame, Wet Felting, Bead Making, Healing Herbs, Brigid Cross Making and Weaving with Willow.
