Murder accused gets custody term for theft

Groceries were stolen

There is increasing concern over the future of Naas Courthouse

A man who is before the court on an allegation of murder received a custody term for theft at Naas District Court.

Ryan Kearney, 38, whose address was given as 2 Loughnamona Drive, Leixlip, is being prosecuted for the  alleged murder of 50 year old Jeffrey Jackson, from Leixlip,  at 5 The Lamps, School Street, Kilcock, on February 8.

The defendant was remanded in custody on this allegation and he appeared before the court by videolink.

Naas District Court was told that the defendant is also being prosecuted for leaving the Supervalu store in Kilcock with €35.44 worth of groceries a few days prior to the murder allegation.

And Sgt Mary Meade told the court it will be alleged that the defendant was stopped by staff members after he left without making any attempt to pay. 

All of the items taken were recovered.

Judge Desmond Zaidan noted that the defendant was on garda station bail for this.

The judge imposed an eleven months custody term.

The murder allegation was adjourned.

He added that if the defendant manages to secure bail in the High Court prior to that date he will be required to attend court in person.
