‘Do not eat!’ — Warning issued as plastic pieces found in food item sold across Irish supermarkets

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has issued an urgent "do not eat" warning as possible pieces of plastic have been found in a popular pantry item sold across Irish supermarkets.

Implicated batches of Desiccated Coconut are being recalled due to the possible presence of pieces of plastic. Recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale.

The implicated batches include:

  • PT Royal Coconut Desiccated Coconut
  • Gem Desiccated Coconut
  • Dunnes Stores Baking At Home Desiccated Coconut
  • The Pantry Desiccated Coconut
  • Sysco Classic Desiccated Coconut

Consumers:

Consumers are advised not to eat the implicated batches. 

Manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, caterers & retailers:

Retailers are requested to remove the implicated batches from sale and display recall notices at point-of-sale. 

Wholesalers / distributors are requested to contact their affected customers and recall / withdraw the implicated batches and provide a point-of-sale notice to their retailer customers.

Caterers should not use the implicated batches.
