Kildare has seen a large increase in house planning permissions granted between 2016 and 2017, according new figures.

Figures from the Central Statistics Office released Friday, March 16, show that the number of housing units for which planning permission was granted in 2017 was 2,106.

The majority were in the first half of the year.

The figure is a 200% increase on the 693 granted in 2016.

This is much greater than the increase for the State as a whole, where the number units units granted permission rose 23% to 15,540.

Over 90% of of the permissions in Kildare in 2017 are in multi house developments compared to 75% group developments  in 2016.

Only 8% were one off houses last year compared to 25% in 2016. There was a 3% decrease in one off houses over the year, from 175 to 170.

The county saw a 53% increase in the number of apartment unit permissions, albeit a low number, up from 43 to 66.
