Irish culture festival mooted for County Kildare town

Moves are afoot to launch a new festival in Newbridge.

Local councillor Tom McDonnell is pressing for a festival which would welcome local people living and working abroad. He said the fervent would have an Irish musical and culture theme.

At a Newbridge Kildare Municipal District meeting, he  asked Kildare County Council what supports might be available for the project. He said a committee would be set up to organise the event which would promote Irish culture.

According to KCC, grant funding is available through a scheme set up for this purpose and  which opens in January 2025. 

KCC said it would be available to meet with the organising committee and “assist with any issues they may experience in lodging the funding application and offer advice and relevant support.”
