Newbridge rail station

Emergency services personnel attended a fire at a train in Newbridge rail station this afternoon.

Passengers were directed to vacate the carriages by the train driver.

They had completed the journey and the last stop was the Newbridge station.

It is understood that a fire took hold beneath one of the carriages shortly before 3pm.

According to Irish Rail representative Barry Kenny, staff attached to both the Kildare Fire Service and Irish Rail were at the scene.

He added that all actions taken were precautionary in nature.

It is thought that the fire began after the train had halted at the platform.

There was a twenty minute delay while the incident was dealt with.

All services resumed after that time and the train was taken out of service. There were no injuries.

It had travelled from Grand Canal Dock in Dublin city centre and its journey concluded at the County Kildare station.
