What is Met Éireann saying for the weekend? No warnings but brutal forecast for Ireland

There may be no official weather warnings in place, but Met Éireann says Ireland is still in for another grim weekend with wet and windy weather set to roll on and linger into next week too.

After a soggy end to the working week, conditions are expected to stay unsettled right through Saturday, Sunday and beyond, with spells of heavy rain and gusty winds pushing across the country.

Met Éireann says Friday will bring “heavy rain with thundery downpours” clearing eastwards, before cloud thickens again later in the day with “outbreaks of rain and drizzle developing in Munster and Connacht this evening”.

There will be some brighter spells earlier, but temperatures will only reach 9 to 12 degrees in moderate to fresh west to southwest winds.

Any hopes of a settled Saturday look set to be dashed with forecasters saying it will be “a mild, breezy and rather wet day” with “further outbreaks of rain moving northeastwards across the country, turning heavy at times particularly in the west and north”.

Daytime highs of 10 to 13 degrees are expected, but it will remain blustery in moderate to fresh southwest winds.

Saturday night may bring a brief lull for some as rain clears southeastwards early on, with clearer spells and isolated showers developing in the north and west. However, cloud will linger in the south and east, with patches of mist and drizzle overnight.

Sunday is shaping up to be another rough day for outdoor plans with Met Éireann saying it will be “bright and blustery with scattered showers”, but warns showers will become “heavier and more persistent for a time through the afternoon”.

The unsettled theme shows few signs of letting up and continues into next week.

Met Éireann says Monday will start “mostly dry and bright”, but that cloud will “thicken from the southwest early on with outbreaks of rain and drizzle spreading northeastwards through the day”. Highest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees are forecast in moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.

Tuesday is also expected to be a washout for many, with Met Éireann warning it will be “a cloudy day with further outbreaks of rain and drizzle”, staying mild with highs of 10 to 13 degrees in moderate to fresh southerly winds.

Looking further ahead, Met Éireann says current indications point to “a continuation of unsettled conditions with further spells of wet and blustery weather” beyond Tuesday.
