'Tragic beyond words' - Funeral details announced for girl killed in fatal scrambler incident

Funeral details have been announced for 16-year-old Grace Lynch, who tragically died after being hit by a scrambler in Finglas, county Dublin on Sunday afternoon.

Grace was walking on the Ratoath road to meet her boyfriend Harry when the collision happened. She was rushed to Blanchardstown hospital but unfortunately passed away due to her injuries.

On Tuesday, 18-year-old Keith Lee of Park View Drive, Poppintree Park in Dublin 11, appeared before a sitting of Blanchardstown District Court, charged with dangerous driving causing Grace's death at Ratoath Road in Finglas on Sunday.

Grace leaves behind her devastated parents Siobhán and Martin, sisters Shauna and Brooke and little brother Jude.

On Monday, hundreds of people gathered in Finglas to walk the road Grace never finished. Grace's mother Siobhán spoke to the crowd. With tears in her eyes she emotionally thanked the crowd for their support.

"I just want to thank you all, from the bottom of our hearts, for turning out, for supporting my child," she said, "I will fight, and I will fight to get these scramblers, and scooters, and everything off these streets.

"My poor baby was mangled in that hospital, in that bed. And to watch her take that last breath, is the worst pain imaginable.

"It's not something that any parent should have to deal with. And with everyone's support, and we'll get petitions signed, and we do the best - we will get this, in the name of Grace. Support her, please."

Hundreds of heartfelt messages of condolences have been left on RIP.ie from those who knew and loved Grace but also from those who didn't know her but have felt the weight of her loss.

One mourner wrote,

"Absolutely devastated for you all ,such a beautiful young girl with her whole life ahead of her, I have no words just to say i will keep you in my prayers and ask god to console you and give you the strength on each passing day.

While another wrote,

"To Grace's parents and family, her boyfriend and friends, and all who grieve her loss, such a terrible, terrible tragedy. May God comfort you all at this desperately sad time and the days ahead. I will light a candle for Grace and say a prayer for you."

The notice on RIP.ie reads,

January 25, 2026. Tragically, at Connolly Hospital, following an accident. Grace will be sadly missed by her heartbroken mam Siobhán, dad Martin, sisters Shauna and her partner Eddie, Brooke and her partner Rían, her little brother Jude, her boyfriend Harry Byrne, grandparents Carol, Stevo and Dolores and the late Arthur Lynch, uncles David, Stephen and Andrew, aunts Rachel, Sharon and Tracy, cousins Holly and Luke, extended family, her classmates in St. Michael's Secondary School, neighbours and friends.

Grace will repose at her home today, Wednesday, January 28 from 4pm - 7pm. House private on Thursday please.

Removal on Friday morning to St. Oliver Plunketts Church, Rivermount D11 Y4XF arriving for Funeral Mass at 11am followed by burial in Dardistown Cemetery.

A GoFundMe page has also been set up to help Grace's family with the costs of her funeral. The page has already raised over €19,000 out of a €24,000 goal.

The message on the page reads,

"Hi my name is cat i am setting up a go fund me as there have been people reaching out asking if they can help in anyway after the tragic passing of beautiful Grace I thought that this would be the best way to help Grace's parents out no family should have to endure what this family are and if we could help in anyway it would be great."
