Heartfelt tributes have been paid across Ireland today as people remember Ashling Murphy on the fourth anniversary of her death.
On this day in January 2022, 23-year-old Ashling was murdered by Jozef Puška while out for a run along the Grand Canal in Tullamore, Co Offaly in a shocking crime that sent ripples across Ireland.
Four years on, her family, friends, partner and the school where she taught are among those marking the anniversary and remembering a young woman who was deeply loved and admired.
In a post on Facebook, Ashling’s boyfriend Ryan Casey shared an emotional tribute, writing: “One of the hardest things we all have to do in life is to try and turn the page to the next chapter, knowing that someone who meant so much to you won’t be in it.

“I think about you and I miss you every day Ash. You made me the man that I am today and you will always be my moral compass in whatever direction life takes me. Rest in peace Ash.”
The school where Ashling taught, Scoil Cholmcille, also shared a tribute, remembering her impact on students and colleagues.
“Today, we remember the tragic loss of our Dear Ms. Ashling Murphy on her 4th anniversary,” the school posted.
“It is still exceptionally hard to believe, to accept & to grieve her absence. We miss her infectious smile, magical voice, musical talents, excellent teaching skills & overall friendship.”
Ashling was widely known as a talented musician and a dedicated teacher, and her death continues to be felt across Ireland.
