RIP Alan Walsh
The funeral of a man from Waterford has been set following a tragic road collision on Christmas Day 2025.
The man has been named locally as Alan Walsh, aged in his 40s, who tragically died when his e-scooter was hit by a vehicle in Waterford City, at the junction of Manor Hill (Bunker’s Hill) and Hennessy’s Road at around 11am on December 25 2025.
The driver of the car, a male in his 80s, was taken to University Hospital Waterford for treatment of injuries believed to be non life-threatening," said a garda spokesperson who added that no other injuries were reported.
There has been a great sense of shock and heartbreak following the tragic and sudden death of the father of two.
Alan was from St. John’s Park in Waterford and he will be greatly missed by his son Sean, daughter Ava, his heartbroken mum Esther, dad Tommy, brothers Thomas and Mark, sisters Lorraine, Karen and Sarah, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Alan's funeral will take place at Thompson's Funeral Home, Barrack St, Waterford on Saturday 3rd January and a vigil with prayers and Rosary will take place afterwards followed by removal to the Sacred Heart Church, The Folly for Mass on arrival at 2:30pm with burial immediately afterwards in St. Otteran’s Cemetery, Ballinaneeshagh, Cork Road, Waterford.
Heartfelt messages have been left on RIP.ie, from those who knew and cherished Alan, with one mourner writing,
"To Esther and all of Alan's family shocked and saddened to hear this news of Alan's tragic passing. May he rest in peace".
Another message said, "There are no words....deepest sympathy to cousin Thomas, Esther. Alan’s siblings and extended family. Such a tragedy. I can’t imagine how you must all be feeling right now. We will keep you all in our prayers. God rest you Alan from Tommy Jacqueline Tony and Heather".
"A dark cloud over Waterford today with the lost of a legend. One of my oldest friends of 26 years. One of the kindest funniest person I ever had the privilege of meeting. Heartfelt condolences to all his family and friends," another mourner wrote.
