A man in his 40s has been arrested after a male cyclist in his 80s was killed in a fatal hit-and-run incident.
Shortly after 9.59am on Friday 12th September 2025, Gardaí and emergency services responded to a collision on the R156 in Batterstown, Ballivor in Meath.
The incident involved a cyclist and a vehicle that failed to remain at the scene.
The male cyclist, aged in his 80’s, was discovered unresponsive, and removed to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown where he was subsequently pronounced deceased.
A male in his 40s is currently detained at a Garda Station in the Eastern Region under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 and can be detained for up to 24 hours, following the hit-and-run.

A vehicle has also been recovered.
Investigating Gardaí at Trim Garda Station continue to appeal to the public for information.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area of Batterstown, Ballivor, Co. Meath, between 9.30am and 10.00am on Friday 12th September 2025, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí. Investigations continue and further updates will follow.
