Rory McIlroy continued his spectacular 2025 by snatching victory in dramatic style in the Amgen Irish Open at the K Club in Kildare. It was McIlroy's first title since his historic Masters victory in April which helped him become just the sixth man to ever win a career grand slam.

McIlroy holed an eagle 3 on the 18th with a brilliant 28-foot putt to force a play-off after Sweden's Joakim Lagergren finished strongly to post a score of -17. The pair couldn't be separated over the first two holes but a misjudged approach shot from the Swede found the water and opened the door for the world number two on their third play-off hole.

McIlroy tapped in for birdie with Lagergren unable to chip in to keep his hopes alive handing the Holywood native his second Irish open win after victory in 2016 also at the K Club.

The Masters champions hailed the spectacular fashion he was able to clinch the Irish Open. Speaking to RTE, he said "It's an incredible day. That eagle putt on 18 to get into the play-off will probably go down as one of the coolest moments of my career".

McIlroy also paid tribute to the home crowd and the impact they had on his game. He said "The support of the crowd out there and playing in that atmosphere, especially coming down the last few holes knowing what I needed to do, the crowd spurred me on".

He continued "After the year I have had and the career I have had, to be able to come home in front of these crowds and feel the love, and show them my appreciation for their support over the years, I love it".

The sensational six-under final round to claim victory in Kildare will put McIlroy in great stead ahead of the Ryder Cup in three weeks in Farmingdale, New York where Europe will be looking to retain the coveted trophy.
