A man has been arrested by gardai investigating the death of a pensioner after an assault in Limerick.
The man, in his 70s, died hours after the incident, which happened at Watergate, on Thursday at about 11.30pm.
The injured man was taken to University Hospital Limerick with life-threatening injuries.
He was pronounced dead on Friday.
A man in his 40s was arrested and is being questioned by gardai in Limerick.
He is being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
Gardai have appealed for witnesses. Anyone who was in the Watergate area on Thursday between 11.15pm and 12am and who may have any information is asked to contact investigating gardai.
Road-users with camera footage, including dash-cam, who were in the area at the time are asked to make the footage available.
